If you've visited
Bramwell, West Virginia in the last
decade, you've no doubt noticed the
rolling stock parked adjacent to replica
depot. One of the cars parked
there is a former N&W heavyweight
pullman converted to a dining car for
use in maintenance of way service.
The car, NW 501427, was eventually
retired by Norfolk Southern and donated
to the Town of Bramwell. On
Tuesday, February 21, 1995 the car was
delivered to Bramwell by NS GP40 #1382
and RP-E4U #9727 (nee N&W GP18 925 - now
NS 927) In addition to the diner,
N&W caboose 555049 was dropped at the
Route 120 grade crossing in Coopers.
It was later relocated to the nearby ball
field of the Pinnacle Little League
where it remains on static display
today. Fortunately Doug Wonders
was in position to document the delivery
on film, which was one of the last moves
over the Bluestone Branch west of
Coopers.
Appreciation is extended to Mr.
Wonders for allowing
me to share his unique images and a
piece of Bluestone Branch history.
